interesting

Today I was at church but not available to play piano (I was teaching Sunday School). No other pianists were available either. So there was no piano - just guitar and drums. As a congregation we sang better than we've sung for ages. More volume, more enthusiasm.

[Trying not to take it personally.]

Maybe we try too hard.

  1. I've noticed this sometimes at our church as well. Our pianist plays very minimally, and when it's just him playing with one singer, often the congregation belts out the songs. There seems to be something about the (right) minimal accompaniment that draws their voices out.

It has to be with the right songs however - simple melodies and well known.
