what does healthy mean?

I was just googling around for ideas for an anzac slice kind of recipe.  One recipe, which had heaps of butter, sugar, honey and chocolate in it, attracted this comment:

"Great healthy family snack, I used melted mars bar for the topping."

I think our definitions of 'healthy' may be somewhat different!

  1. No, no, you've misunderstood. It's a great snack for a healthy family, a marvellous way to rebel against all that celery and wheatgerm. If you're going to let your hair down, it should go all the way, right?

  2. Personally I'm good with that definition...

  3. Most Australians are living under grand delusions of healthiness. As long as they can drive everywhere, catch a lift to the upper floors and are not required to exert themselves at all, they are healthy!

  4. Another lurker who has been enjoying your work for a while emerging here to suggest this one if you haven't already found something...

I haven't made the exact recipe but have done something similar and they taste good. Does the amount of oats cancel out the sweet stuff?

I also wanted to say thanks for your blog posts. You probably don't remember, but we met very briefly about five years ago...we came to Scots PC a few times while we were living in Redcliffe, we had our second baby Liam while we were living there (I can still remember feeding him out in the church foyer!). We weren't there for long but really enjoyed the teaching, and we're now settled into a church on the southern Gold Coast (not commuting from Redcliffe though!!).

  5. Hi Karen! Yes I remember you. Can't believe Liam is 6. Time flies!

Which church are you at now?

So glad you commented. I've bookmarked that recipe and will try it this week.

  6. Hope the recipe goes well, if it doesn't let me know and I'll send you the one I used from the cookbook.

Yes, time does fly! Aidan is almost 8, Liam is not quite 6 yet, he turned 5 in December and started school this year and we now have little Rosie too, born in August last year, 6 weeks early, but going really well now at 8 months.

We are at Christ Church Presbyterian Currumbin now, we've been there since the end of 2005 and watched it grow heaps in the last few years, so it's been very exciting. I do a bit of piano playing at church (sharing duties with a music teacher who plays much better than me which can be daunting but I guess it's a good incentive for me to improve what I do). I do like playing Never Alone, and it's pretty cool thinking "I met the person who wrote that..."

    Nice to catch up!
