Why we should celebrate Australia Day in 40-50 words

Part of Nathan's homework for this week. Dave B, this is for you.

Why we should celebrate Australia Day in 40-50 words
I think we should celebrate Australia Day because it’s a public holiday. Public holidays should be like the Sabbath was to the Jews. Holidays are good because it means less school. Australia Day should not be celebrated because the racist white people came to Australia, but because Australia is now a country of many different cultures.

  1. I'm all for limiting the celebrations to 40-50 words!

  2. That's hilarious - celebrating because it's a public holiday, not the other way around.

  3. 'Australia is now a country of many different cultures'...This wouldn't be apparent if you watched all the whiter than milky white Australian sports teams. Are there ethnic minority sportspeople (apart from just more than the one token in a sprinkling of teams) heavily represented in any Australia sporting teams? Answer: no.

Any ethnic minority reprsentation in TV presenting (ie. new readers) apart from SBS, answer: no.

Sorry to seem negative, but from afar (I'm writing from Britain) the 'diversity' of Australia, which is no doubt true, needs to be more well represented in sports and media.
